ABOUT US

There’s a place in Városmajor where you can go after work, in your free time, alone, or with your friends. Where everyone is happy to relax under the shade of hundred-year-old trees, with tasty bites and cool drinks. A place that is so colorful and varied that there are no two nights there that would be the same. We start the story, and you finish it: welcome to the secret garden of Buda!

The history of our place goes back a long time: originally Count Henrik Daun established a manor here in 1720. The building in our area which is now fenced off used to be a farm building belonging to the manor, until at the end of the 18th century, it became a city dance hall and bar. At this time, the bar was called “To the Hermit”, but later it was renamed “To the Monkey”.

It was not very fortunate during the 1848-49 fight for independence: at the siege of Buda, General Artúr Görgey established his headquarters here for a time. Then, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries it operated as a gardening center.

A few other alterations were made to the building in the 1900s, but eventually it was forgotten, and nature slowly reconquered the area. And maybe it would have held it forever, if we hadn’t started a new chapter in its story in 2020, bringing back its old name.
